How To Give Through My Will

A gift in your will helps children far into the future and adds strength to UMCH Family Services.  You may leave to UMCH Family Services a specific dollar amount or a certain percentage of your estate after provisions for family members have been made. All outright bequests to UMCH Family Services are exempt from federal estate taxes, and there is no limitation on the size of the gift.

Suggested Forms of Bequests

When making or revising a will you should obtain the assistance of an attorney.  The Development Staff of UMCH Family Services will be pleased to work with you and your attorney to design an estate plan specifically tailored to your wishes.  The following are suggested forms for making various types of bequests.

  1. Outright bequest in will

 Specific dollar amount:

I bequeath the sum of ________ dollars [$_____] to UMCH Family Services, Columbus, Ohio 43215 to be used or disposed of for ___________[or as its Board of Directors in its sole discretion deems appropriate.]

Specific property (personal property):

I bequeath <DESCRIPTION OF PROPERTY> to UMCH Family Services,  Columbus, Ohio 43215 to be used or disposed of for _________[or as its Board of Directors in its sole discretion deems appropriate.]

 Specific property (real estate):

I devise all of my right, title, and interest in and to the real estate located at <DESCRIPTION OF PROPERTY> to UMCH Family Services, Columbus, Ohio 43215  to be used or disposed of for _______ [or as its Board of Directors in its sole discretion deems appropriate.]

Share of, or entire residue, of estate:

I devise and bequeath (all/or percent [______%]) of the remainder of my property to UMCH Family Services, Columbus, Ohio 43215  to be used or disposed of for ___________ [or as its Board of Directors in its sole discretion deems appropriate.]

  1. Conditional bequest in will

Insert the conditional language in one or more of the above provisions.  For example:

If my husband/wife does not survive me, I bequeath the sum of __________Dollars ($______) to UMCH Family Services, Columbus, Ohio 43215  to be used or disposed of for _______ [or as its Board of Directors in its sole discretion deems appropriate.]

Restricted bequest:

If the gift to UMCH Family Services is restricted, insert the restriction in place of the words “to be used or disposed of as its Board of Directors in its sole discretion deems appropriate.”  For example: I bequeath the sum of ________ dollars ($___________) to UMCH Family Services,  Columbus, Ohio 43215  for the following use and purpose:  <DESCRIPTION OF PURPOSE>.

In the event of a gift subject to a restriction, we suggest including the following provision:

If in the judgment of the Board of Directors of UMCH Family Services it becomes impossible to accomplish the purposes of this gift, the income or principal may be used for such related purposes and in such manner as determined by its Board of Directors.
